President SouthStar Energy Services LLC
Michael A. Braswell is president of SouthStar Energy Services LLC, which does business in Georgia as Georgia Natural Gas and in the Carolinas as Piedmont Energy. He has more than 18 years of experience in the natural gas industry, working in both regulated and deregulated companies. Braswell is responsible for ensuring the continued success of Georgia’s leading natural gas provider, serving approximately one-half million customers.
Prior to being named president, he served as executive vice president and chief operating officer for SouthStar. He also has served as vice president-retail markets and as vice president-customer service and strategic planning. In his position as vice president-retail markets, he was responsible for the operations of the retail market, including gas supply, asset management and sales for residential, small commercial and large industrial customers. As vice president-customer service and strategic planning, he oversaw customer service, billing and business planning.
Before joining SouthStar, Braswell held various key positions over a 10-year period with AGL Resources, working in marketing, sales management, rates and strategic planning.
He currently serves on the board of directors of the Center for the Advancement of Energy Markets (CAEM), and he is a policy chair for the National Energy Marketers Association (NEM). In addition, he is a member of the board of directors of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce.
Braswell is a graduate of Georgia Tech, where he earned a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering. He later earned a master of business administration degree (concentration in finance) from Georgia State University.
Braswell resides in Atlanta with his wife and four children.
