Vice President, Compliance and Technical Services
Don Carter was named vice president, Compliance and Technical Services for AGL Resources (NYSE: GAS) in December 2011. He is responsible for developing strategic initiatives to establish and continually improve standards, procedures, analyses, business and IT systems, and execution of all activities associated with business operations and system integrity.
Previously, Carter was vice president and general manager of Elizabethtown Gas. He was responsible for the operations, management and maintenance of the utility which provides natural gas delivery service to 275,000 residential, business and industrial customers in parts of Union, Middlesex, Sussex, Warren, Hunterdon, Morris and Mercer counties in New Jersey.
Prior to that, Carter had been region manager for the Elizabethtown Gas northwest service area with offices in New Village, Flemington and Andover, NJ. He has held a number of positions with increasing responsibility throughout his more than two decades of service with AGL Resources.
Carter joined Atlanta Gas Light in 1984 after his graduation from the Georgia Institute of Technology with an engineering degree. He earned a masters degree in business administration from Brenau University and is a registered professional engineer in the state of Georgia.
While in New Jersey, Carter served on the boards of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce and the New Jersey Utilities Association. Previously in Georgia, Carter served on the boards of the Utilities Protection Center of Georgia and the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce and the Gwinnett Council for Quality Growth. He was also active in the Cumming-Forsyth Chamber of Commerce and the Gwinnett United Way Campaign Cabinet.
Carter is based in Atlanta. He and his wife, Betty, are raising a daughter, Morgan.
