Executive Vice President, Utility Operations
Eric Martinez was named executive vice president of Utility Operations at AGL Resources in November 2005. In this position, Martinez is responsible for strategic policy and management oversight of the company’s regulated gas distribution operations, which include six utility subsidiaries that extend from New Jersey to Florida. He is also charged with overseeing the Engineering and Construction as well as Information Technology functions of the company.
In 2005, Martinez led the AGL Resources business process initiative to integrate the company’s distribution technology environment driving the technology decisions that will allow AGL Resources to realize the company’s vision of the virtual distributed workforce and ultimately help the company reach its goal to become one of the nation's most advanced gas logistics and distribution companies.
Previously, Martinez was vice president and general manager of Elizabethtown Gas, which was acquired by AGL Resources from NUI in 2004. He is credited with integrating Elizabethtown Gas and AGL Resources operations in record time resulting in significant savings in operations and maintenance budgets while achieving a measured increase in employee safety performance and customer satisfaction.
Before taking the helm at Elizabethtown Gas, Martinez was senior vice president of Engineering and Construction for Pivotal Energy Development, a position he held beginning August 2003. In 2002, Martinez held the position of chief operating officer at AGL Networks, a subsidiary focused on providing last-mile fiber optic solutions to customers in Atlanta and Phoenix.
Martinez has served as vice president of Corporate Development for AGL Resources. Primary among his responsibilities was managing all phases of Engineering and Construction for asset development projects originated by Pivotal.
Possessing an extensive background in utility field operations and construction, Martinez joined AGL Resources in 1990 as a distribution engineer for Atlanta Gas Light, a subsidiary. Martinez has also held the following positions at AGL Resources: managing director of Field Operations; director of Pipeline Renewal (a $50 million multi-year program); manager of Atlanta Gas Light’s Valdosta Service Center; and design engineer for Chattanooga Gas, another subsidiary.
Martinez received a bachelor of science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University in 1990 and master's in Business Administration from Valdosta State University in 1999. He passed the professional engineers exam for the state of Tennessee.
Born and raised in Connecticut, Martinez and his family now reside in Atlanta.
