Vice President, Engineering and Construction

Steven M. Murphy was named vice president, Engineering and Construction for AGL Resources (NYSE: GAS) in December 2011. He is responsible for all aspects of engineering and construction for the enterprise including the company's storage assets and new infrastructure related to the company's seven gas distribution companies: Atlanta Gas Light, Chattanooga Gas, Elizabethtown Gas, Elkton Gas, Florida City Gas, Nicor Gas and Virginia Natural Gas.
With a focus on engineering and operations, Mr. Murphy brings nearly 20 years of valuable company experience to his new role. He has held numerous leadership positions since joining AGL Resources in 1992. Previously, he served as managing director, Operations Services where he was responsible for developing strategic initiatives to establish and continually improve operating standards and procedures, asset record and maintenance systems, and integrity management programs as well as execution of activities associated with asset protection, system maintenance and cathodic protection. Prior to that, Mr. Murphy served as managing director, Engineering Management. In this position, he directed design engineering for AGL Resources' gas distribution companies, GIS Support Services, Compliance and System Integrity, and the Office of Corporate Engineering. He was accountable for an annual capital budget of $100 to $150 million including distribution system improvements.
Mr. Murphy is on the board of directors for Georgia's Utility Protections Center.
He earned his civil engineering degree from Georgia Institute of Technology and a master's in business administration from Georgia State University. He is a Professional Engineer certified by the National Society of Professional Engineers.
Mr. Murphy lives with his wife and three sons in Canton, Ga.
