Ira G. Pearl was named vice president, Environmental Health and Safety for AGL Resources (NYSE:GAS) in December 2011 and became president of Renewco, AGL Resources' renewable energy development company, in February 2010. As vice president, Environmental Health and Safety, he works to ensure that safety remains at the forefront of all company activities and oversees the company's climate change and greenhouse gas strategy, environmental sustainability initiatives and all corporate environmental programs.
Previously, Mr. Pearl served as vice president of Technology and Environmental Sustainability where he was responsible for leading business development and commercialization of the company's renewable energy portfolio and end-use technologies, including distributed generation, fuel cells, natural gas vehicles and high-efficiency appliances.
From 2005 through 2008, Mr. Pearl served as vice president, engineering services and supply chain, where he led the company's engineering, construction, fleet, crisis management, supply chain management, and environmental, health & safety departments.
Prior to joining AGL Resources in 2005, Mr. Pearl held several executive positions at Delta Air Lines, overseeing environmental affairs, ground operations, safety and security, and flight operations.
Mr. Pearl serves on the boards of the Georgia Conservancy, American Israel Chamber of Commerce and the Southface Energy Institute.
He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a bachelor of chemical engineering. He then completed his post-graduate education in nuclear engineering and spent more than six years as a nuclear submarine officer in the U.S. Navy.
He and his wife, Leslie, and their daughter, Sydney, live in Atlanta.
