Vice President, State and Federal Regulatory Affairs
Shannon O. Pierce was named vice president, State and Federal Regulatory Affairs for AGL Resources (NYSE: GAS) in July 2014. She is responsible for regulatory affairs for the company's southern gas utilities: Atlanta Gas Light Company, Chattanooga Gas Company, and Florida City Gas, and also directs regulatory support for the company's Houston-based non-utility operations. Pierce also oversees the company's federal regulatory policy initiatives and activities and leads the company's interactions with Georgia's retail natural gas marketers.
Pierce joined the AGL Resources legal department in 2004 as regulatory counsel responsible for the company's activities at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Prior to her current role, she served as senior counsel, Gas Operations and Interstate Transactions and managing director, Regulatory Affairs and Marketer Services, Southern Operations. As managing director, Pierce led the efforts toward the successful execution of several key regulatory achievements, including the approval of Atlanta Gas Light's Integrated Vintage Plastic Replacement program and the extension of STRIDE 2.0, the second phase of the AGL infrastructure enhancement and economic development program.
Prior to joining AGL Resources, Pierce was an associate in the Energy and Utilities group at McGuireWoods LLP, based in Richmond, Va. She is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the Energy Bar Association (currently serving as Immediate Past President and on the Board of Directors of the Southern Chapter), and the American Association of Blacks in Energy. She is also a member of the board of directors of the YWCA of Greater Atlanta and serves on the advisory committee (formerly a Board member) for Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta. Pierce is also a member of the Corporate Leadership Council of the Fernbank Museum of Natural History and represents AGL as corporate champion for the American Red Cross Life Board.
Pierce received both her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Virginia, and she currently serves on the board of managers of the University's Alumni Association.
She is a native of Surry, Va. and lives in Atlanta.
