Paul Shlanta is executive vice president, general counsel and chief ethics and compliance officer of Southern Company Gas (formerly AGL Resources). Shlanta is responsible for managing all of Southern Company Gas' legal affairs as well as compliance and ethics matters, claims, corporate security; and the corporate secretary and chief risk officer organizations. He also is a member of the Southern Company Gas Management Council.
Shlanta was named senior vice president and general counsel of Southern Company Gas in September 1998. In September 2002, Shlanta took on the added responsibilities of chief corporate compliance officer. He also served as corporate secretary from June 2002 until February 2005. He was named executive vice president in September 2005.
Prior to joining Southern Company Gas, Shlanta served as a partner with Rowe, Foltz and Martin, P.C. Before that time he was with Long Aldridge and Norman.
Shlanta is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Georgia and the Atlanta Bar Association. He is a member of the executive committee of the Corporate Counsel Section of the State Bar of Georgia. He is a past chairman of the legal committee of the American Gas Association and formally served as chairman of the board of governors of The Center for Ethics and Corporate Responsibility at Georgia State University's J. Mack Robinson College of Business.
Shlanta received his bachelor's degree in political economy from Williams College in 1979 and his juris doctor degree from Emory University School of Law in 1983.
Shlanta, a native of Pleasantville, N.Y., resides in Atlanta with his family.
