Senior Vice President, Operations Services
Jay Sutton was named senior vice president, operations services, for AGL Resources (NYSE:GAS) in December 2011. He is responsible for designing and maintaining the integrity of the company's infrastructure and for standardizing operating procedures across the company's seven gas distribution companies in seven states: Atlanta Gas Light, Chattanooga Gas, Elizabethtown Gas, Elkton Gas, Florida City Gas, Nicor Gas and Virginia Natural Gas.
An engineer by training, Sutton brings more than 27 years of diverse company experience to his position. Previously, Sutton served as vice president, engineering services and supply chain services, leading several departments including engineering, construction, supply chain management, fleet, occupational health, safety, crisis management and business continuity planning. He was responsible for centralizing and standardizing its pipeline construction program and practices. Sutton implemented new procedures and technology that led to improved customer service and significant capital cost reductions.
Prior to that, Sutton served as vice president and general manager, Coastal Region (Atlanta Gas Light and Florida City Gas). His responsibilities included driving financial performance, meeting customer needs, ensuring compliance, building strong community relationships and all other operations.
He served as director, Strategic Alliances, and played a key role in the successful transition of AGL Resources' call center operations and other back office functions offshore in 2006.
He currently serves on the board of directors for the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell, Ga.
Sutton received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Clemson University and is a registered professional engineer in the state of Georgia.
A native of South Carolina, he and his wife live with their two daughters in Atlanta, Georgia.
