Melvin D. Williams was named senior vice president, planning and business services, for AGL Resources (NYSE:GAS) in December 2011. He is responsible for forecasting, scheduling and dispatching field personnel; setting strategy for systems to support field operations; and enabling standardization through the company's supply chain and fleet organizations.

With the company for 22 years, Mr. Williams previously served as vice president and general manager, Atlanta Gas Light and Florida City Gas. In this role he oversaw field operations in Port St. Lucie, Brevard and Hialeah, Fla., and much of the Atlanta Gas Light territory in Georgia outside of metro Atlanta.

Mr. Williams has a depth of operations and regulatory experience and has held various roles in the company. As director of new business development, he was responsible for managing and developing marketing programs that attracted new business ventures, operations and activities by providing products and services for audiences who interface with the natural gas utility. As director of regulatory affairs, Mr. Williams took on the role of advocate for the company's regulatory policies before the Georgia and Florida public service commissions. His responsibilities included developing and implementing state regulatory policy and strategy for the corporation.

Mr. Williams is a member of the American Association of Blacks in Energy and on the board of the Associated Gas Distributors of Florida and the Florida Natural Gas Association. He actively supports numerous community and youth organizations in both Georgia and Florida.

A Savannah native, Mr. Williams received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Savannah State University in 1987. He is the youngest son of Johnny and Retha Williams of Savannah.
